PTCL Terminates Chief HR Officer Shoaib Baig Amidst Controversy

Islamabad, Zubair kasuri: Pakistan – Pakistan Telecommunication Company Limited (PTCL) has dismissed its Chief Human Resources Officer (CHRO), Shoaib Baig, after a contentious 2.5-year tenure marked by significant internal turmoil.

Allegations and Internal Discord
Baig’s leadership style created a difficult work environment, according to multiple insiders, leading to the departure of several senior HR team members, including Raza Sarwar, Amjad Iqbal, Mudassar Amin, Nadeem, and Hina Tasleem.

One of the most controversial decisions under Baig was the forced relocation of Waqar and Abdul Ali from the HR department. Additionally, questions arose regarding the hiring of former colleagues from K-Electric and Telenor, some of whom allegedly lacked proper credentials and reference checks. These hires, many of whom were on salaries significantly higher than PTCL’s average, exacerbated employee dissatisfaction.
Two individuals close to Baig, Bajwa and Niaz, were also implicated in fostering a hostile work environment. Concerns were raised about financial integrity and transparency, particularly regarding large sums allegedly paid to favored consultants.

PTCL’s Response and Future Outlook
In response to these allegations and internal discord, PTCL has terminated Baig and his close associates, signaling a commitment to restoring stability and accountability within the company.

PTCL’s spokesperson has yet to comment on the future of the HR department post-Baig’s departure. The company is likely to face challenges in rebuilding trust and addressing employee concerns following this turbulent period.
