Special Report, February 5, 2025 – The Pakistani Embassy in Kabul observed Kashmir Solidarity Day with a ceremony reaffirming Pakistan’s commitment to the Kashmiri people’s right to self-determination. Ambassador Ubaid-ur-Rehman Nizamani, Pakistan’s Head of Mission in Afghanistan, addressed the gathering, emphasizing that support for the Kashmiri cause remains a central tenet of Pakistan’s foreign policy.
Ambassador Nizamani stated that Pakistan will continue to provide moral, diplomatic, and political support to the people of Jammu and Kashmir until they achieve their right to self-determination, a right he said has been denied for 78 years under “illegal Indian occupation.” He highlighted the ongoing “brutal oppression” of Kashmiris under Indian military control, citing the trampling of civil and political rights and the normalization of arbitrary detentions.
The Ambassador urged India to recognize that the “colonization of Jammu and Kashmir and suppression of their legitimate aspirations cannot result in lasting peace in South Asia.” He called on the international community to exert political and diplomatic pressure on India to resolve the Kashmir dispute in accordance with relevant UN Security Council resolutions, international law, India’s commitments, and the aspirations of the Kashmiri people.
Messages from President Asif Ali Zardari, Prime Minister Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif, and Deputy Prime Minister/Foreign Minister Mohammad Ishaq Dar were also read at the ceremony.
