Pakistan Envoy Visits MGIMO, Explores Academic Cooperation with Russian Institution

MOSCOW: February 11, 2026 — Pakistan’s Ambassador to the Russian Federation, Faisal Niaz Tirmizi, visited the Moscow State Institute of International Relations (MGIMO University) on Tuesday and held detailed discussions with the university’s Rector, Professor Anatoly Torkunov, on expanding academic and research collaboration.

 

MGIMO operates under the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation and is regarded as one of Russia’s leading institutions in international relations and diplomacy.

According to a press release issued by the Embassy of Pakistan in Moscow, the two sides explored prospects for strengthening cooperation between MGIMO and prominent Pakistani universities and think tanks. Discussions focused on promoting academic exchanges, launching joint research initiatives, and organizing scientific and cultural events to deepen institutional linkages.

During the visit, Ambassador Tirmizi also interacted with Russian students who are studying Pakistan and the broader region. He appreciated their keen interest in Pakistan and commended their proficiency in the Urdu language.

The meeting was held in a cordial and constructive atmosphere, with both sides reaffirming their commitment to enhancing collaboration in academic and scientific fields.
