JOINT INVESTIGATION TEAM FORMED TO PROBE MALICIOUS SOCIAL MEDIA CAMPAIGN

Islamabad, Zubair kasuri: Pakistan – In a swift move to combat online extremism, the Federal Government has formed a Joint Investigation Team (JIT) to investigate a malicious social media campaign that has spread chaos and disorder in the country.

JIT TO PROBE HATE AND EXTREMISM ONLINE

The JIT, comprising top officials from police and cybercrime agencies, will investigate and prosecute individuals responsible for promoting hate and extremism online.

– Inspector General of Police, ICT – Convener
– Director Cybercrime, FIA – Member
– Director CTW, FIA – Member
– DIG (Investigation) ICT, Police – Member
– SSP (CTD) ICT, Police – Member
– Additional Director General, FIA – Co-opted Member
– Representative from the Ministry of Information Technology – Co-opted Member
– Representative from the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) – Co-opted Member

TERMS OF REFERENCE

– Investigate and determine the organized objectives of the accused and their accomplices
– Identify and prosecute culprits in accordance with applicable laws

GOVERNMENT TAKES ACTION AGAINST ONLINE EXTREMISM
