Centenarian’s Birthday Celebrated in Hunza, Highlighting Community Respect for Elders

Hunza: A heartwarming celebration in Hunza district saw the community come together to mark the 100th birthday of a local woman, underscoring the deep-rooted respect for elders in the region. The special event, a joint effort by the Aga Khan Social Welfare Board and the local community, was held in Karimabad and drew significant participation from women aged 60 and above.

The highlight of the day was the collective birthday celebration of the centenarian, a testament to Hunza’s rich traditions. Participants also engaged in an energetic walk through the stunning valley, showcasing the active lives and integral role of senior citizens within the community.
Speaking at the event, social worker Rahmat Karim emphasized that elders are not relics of the past but rather a guiding light for the present and a cornerstone for the future. Halima Mahboob, Chairperson of Social Welfare, commended the contributions of the elderly women, recognizing them as invaluable members of society.
Various speakers lauded the wisdom and experiences of the elders, stressing the importance of providing them with meaningful engagement and joy. The initiative was warmly received by the participating women, who viewed it as a significant morale booster.
Hunza, renowned for its breathtaking natural beauty, is equally celebrated for the strong bonds of affection, tolerance, and profound respect for its senior citizens. This recent celebration reaffirms the high value the people of Hunza place on their traditions and cherished values.
