Capital Emergency Services conducted a fire and rescue drill at the Prime Minister’s Office to check the building’s emergency response and safety systems.
The exercise highlighted several safety problems. Officials found that the fire alarm and siren were too weak and could not be heard clearly in some areas.
They also found that the electrical gate could not open during a power failure. Authorities ordered officials to install and activate emergency and manual override systems immediately.
During the drill, emergency teams were informed about the fire within one minute of receiving the call.
A fire tender from G-5 reached the Prime Minister’s Office in just four minutes after the alarm was received at 11:32 am.
A rescue van and a Bronto sky lift also reached the location within nine minutes.
The complete mock fire and rescue drill ended at 11:58 am.
Officials said the overall performance of Capital Emergency Services was satisfactory, but the safety issues identified during the exercise need to be addressed quickly.
