ISLAMABAD (News Desk): Pakistan and Australia have discussed ways to expand cooperation in agriculture and livestock, with particular emphasis on research, innovation, climate resilience and stronger institutional partnerships.
Pakistan’s High Commissioner Irfan Shaukat held a meeting with Dr Nick Austin, Chief Executive Officer of the Australian Centre for International Agricultural Research (ACIAR), where the two sides reviewed the longstanding agricultural research partnership between Pakistan and Australia.
During the meeting, the High Commissioner appreciated ACIAR’s continued support and partnership in Pakistan’s agricultural research and development sector. The discussions also focused on opportunities to further strengthen cooperation and develop new areas of collaboration.
The two sides reviewed ongoing research initiatives covering several important areas, including livestock, horticulture, crop productivity, water management and climate-resilient agriculture.
They also explored possibilities for expanding joint research and innovation while strengthening institutional linkages between Pakistani and Australian organisations working in agriculture and related fields.
The discussions highlighted the importance of agricultural research and technical cooperation in addressing emerging challenges faced by the sector, particularly those linked to climate change, water management and agricultural productivity.
Both sides expressed interest in identifying new areas of mutual benefit and building on existing cooperation to support innovation and sustainable agricultural development.
The engagement comes as Pakistan continues to seek stronger research-based solutions for improving agricultural productivity, strengthening livestock development and building resilience against climate-related challenges.
