5h Annual Lahore Debating Gala held by FMH College of Medicine & Dentistry
(Lahore- 16th – 18thApril 2016) The FMHC debating Society of FMH College of Medicine & Dentistry hosted the 5th Annual Lahore Debating Gala, the event also featured its debut Mushaira Competition. The aim of the gala was to bring talented individuals of premier institutions from across Lahore in a battle of oratory skills.
The Lahore Debating Gala consisted of 30 institutes from across Punjab which includes major debating societies from GCU, FCCU, LUMS, King Edward Medical University, Allama Iqbal Medical College, SIMS and Punjab University.
The Lahore Debating Gala was held over a period of three days and comprised of three events which were the Parliamentary held ofSunday, 17th of April 2016, the Declamation held on Monday, 18th of April 2016 & the debut Mushaira Competition took place on Monday 18th of April 2016.
The Lahore Debating Gala consisting of 17 teams for Parliamentary, 16 teams of Declamation and ten teams for the Mushaira competition.
The winner of the Parliamentary debates was Kind Edward Medical University and runners up were Forman Christian College University. The best speaker was Horeem Farooq from KEMU and Best U19 team was from Lahore Grammar School Paragon Branch.
The Declamation Team trophy went to Punjab University and the winners of the English Debate Category were Raza Hayat from LUMS – 1st position, Rameesha Khan from Punjab University -2nd Position while Namra Nadeem from SIMS stood third. In the Urdu Debate Category Hamza Mustafa from Punjab University won 1st position, Umair Tariq from SIMS came 2nd and Syed Musa Kazim from the University of Sargodha came third.The winner of the Mushaira Competition was the team from University of Sargodha; In the Ghazal category Usama Zoraiz GCU came first, Kumail Abbas from University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences won second position and Syed Musa Kazim from University of Sargodha came third. The winners of the Nazam category were SohaibMuneer from Punjab University came first; SanawarIshaq won second position while it was a tie between Mumshad and Aleena Shalai for third position.
The judges for the declamation were Dr. Abdul Basit, Fahad Waseem, Ali Arshad, Dr. Usman Saeed, and Prof. Latif Aftab. The adjudication panelfor the parliamentary debates consisted of Muhammad Adeel, Hassan Haider Raza, Ali Arshad & Syed Ahmed Raza.
The Lahore Debating Gala 2015 was organized by Patron-in-Chief, Prof. Rakhshanda Rehman, Staff President, Prof. Dr. Saba Khalid, Syeda Amina Rizvi -President,Osheen Fatima- Vice President, Ahmed Shumaim Zia -General Secretary and members of the FMHC Debating Society.
