Dawid Malan Analyzes Multan Sultans’ Narrow Loss to Peshawar Zalmi in PSL 9

After Multan Sultans’ narrow defeat to Peshawar Zalmi by 5 runs in a riveting Pakista n Super League PSL 9 encounter, Dawid Malan took the podium at the post-match press conference to shed light on the reasons behind the team’s falling short.

Reasons for the Loss:

Malan, reflecting on the closely contested match, pointed out two key factors that contributed to Multan Sultans’ defeat. “Slightly more extras today, along with some fielding mishaps cost us,” he stated. The English batter believed that in such a closely fought encounter, a 5-run margin could have been bridged with a reduction in extras or improved fielding.

Despite Malan’s impactful innings of 52 runs from 25 balls, Multan Sultans fell short of securing their fourth consecutive victory in PSL 9.

Debutant Leg-Spinner Arif Yaqoob’s Impact:

The press conference also featured Peshawar Zalmi’s debutant leg-spinner, Arif Yaqoob, who played a pivotal role in the team’s success. Although his economy rate was on the higher side, Arif’s three-wicket over in the death overs tilted the match in Peshawar Zalmi’s favor.

Confirming his strategy, Arif stated, “I wasn’t trying variations due to the conditions, and my goal was to bowl dot deliveries.” Despite the pressure, Arif managed to deliver crucial breakthroughs for Peshawar Zalmi, finishing with figures of 4-0-43-3.

Expressing his experience of making his PSL debut in a high-stakes encounter, Arif shared, “I played for the first time with such a crowd, and with time, the pressure perished, and I started to enjoy.” The right-arm leggie emerged as one of the limited spin-bowling options for Peshawar Zalmi, and his impactful performance in this match showcased his potential in the tournament.
