Three-Day Urs Celebrations of Syed Waris Shah Commence in Sheikhupura

Sheikhupura: The three-day Urs celebrations commemorating the 226th death anniversary of Syed Waris Shah, the renowned Punjabi poet and author of the epic romance “Heer Ranjha,” began today in Sheikhupura.

The festivities commenced with Quran recitation, a ritual bath with rose water, and the draping of a ceremonial cloth over the poet’s shrine. Deputy Commissioner Sheikhupura, Shahid Imran Marth, along with district administration officials and Urs Management Committee members, participated in the inaugural ceremony. Pilgrims from across the country are expected to attend the three-day event, which features a Punjabi poetry symposium, a “Heer” singing competition, a Sufi night, and various cultural activities.
In honor of the Urs, a local holiday has been declared in Sheikhupura district.
