Realme has officially announced that it is suspending new smartphone product development in China as part of a major strategic shift aimed at accelerating its growth in international markets.
The company confirmed the decision in an official statement, revealing that future product launches and software updates will primarily be designed for overseas consumers rather than the domestic Chinese market.
Realme Shifts Focus to International Expansion
According to Realme, the company has decided to “press the pause button” on new product development in China after reviewing its long-term business strategy.
Going forward, the smartphone maker plans to invest more resources into expanding its presence across global markets, with a particular emphasis on performance-focused and gaming smartphones. The move is expected to strengthen Realme’s competitiveness in key international regions where the brand has seen steady growth.
Existing Chinese Users Will Continue Receiving Support
Despite halting new product development in China, Realme clarified that it is not exiting the market completely.
The company assured customers that existing devices sold in China will continue to receive software updates, warranty coverage, and after-sales support. These services will now be managed by Oppo, ensuring uninterrupted customer support for current users.
Oppo Reorganizes Its Smartphone Brands
Realme’s strategic shift is part of a broader restructuring within Oppo’s smartphone business.
According to reports, Realme will now concentrate primarily on overseas markets, while OnePlus will place greater focus on strengthening its position in China. At the same time, OnePlus is expected to continue providing software support for users in India but has reportedly paused new smartphone launches in Europe and North America as part of the reorganization.
The new strategy is designed to reduce overlap between Oppo’s smartphone brands, allowing each company to target different regions and customer segments instead of competing in the same markets.
A New Direction for Realme
The latest announcement signals a significant shift in Realme’s global strategy. By prioritizing international markets and streamlining brand responsibilities within the Oppo ecosystem, the company aims to strengthen its global footprint while maintaining support for its existing customer base in China.
More details regarding Realme’s upcoming global smartphone lineup are expected to be announced in the coming months.
