Diplomatic Incident: Afghan Consul General Controversy in Peshawar

PESHAWAR, Pakistan – A diplomatic row has erupted after Afghan Consul General Muhibullah Shakir failed to stand respectfully during Pakistan’s national anthem at the National Mercy Conference.

According to eyewitnesses, all participants stood up as the anthem began, but Consul General Shakir and his colleagues remained seated, causing outrage and embarrassment.

Official sources condemned the incident and said that Shakir’s actions violated diplomatic protocol. Diplomatic staff are bound to follow the host country’s laws and customs, including showing respect during the national anthem, a source said.
