Mobile Market in Pakistan Facing Turmoil

Lahore news desk: The Pakistani mobile phone industry is currently experiencing a significant downturn. Just a few months ago, the industry was booming, but the imposition of new taxes in June has led to a sharp decline in sales.

In anticipation of the new taxes, large dealers stocked up on inventory from distributors, taking advantage of an 18% sales tax benefit. However, consumer demand has plummeted, leaving dealers with excess stock they are now struggling to sell.
Adding to the problem, some individuals have been secretly selling official stock at below-market rates, further disrupting the market. As a result, companies are finding it difficult to sell their inventory, with the exception of a few popular brands like Nokia, Xiaomi, and Infinix.

This situation has created a kind of “war” between companies, distributors, and dealers, with each trying to minimize their losses. The ultimate beneficiaries, however, are the consumers who can now purchase mobile phones at significantly lower prices.
