A Seminar On Food Applications Of Palm Oil Held in Karachi

Pakistan imports approximately 3 million tons of palm oil

Lahore: November 10, 2016 The second Techno-Marketing Seminar on Food Applications of Palm Oil, organized by the Malaysian Palm Oil Council was held on Wednesday, November 9, 2016 at Movenpick Hotel, Karachi. The event was attended by officials from the Malaysian Palm Oil Council (MPOC) and the Malaysian Palm Oil Board (MPOB), and members of the oils and fats and food industries of Pakistan.

pictureA number of papers were presented by both local and foreign experts providing insights on the nutritional and functional attributes of palm oil, and how Pakistan’s importers, traders and manufacturers can benefit in their business operations from the further propagation of palm oil.Mr. Ismail Mohamad Bakri, Consul General of Malaysia was the chief guest at the seminar. In his opening remarks, Mr. Bakri stressed the importance of Pakistan as a trading partner for Malaysia. He said, “This seminar provides a platform for the exchange of ideas, information and for further strengthening trade relations and partnerships between Malaysia and Pakistan. The objective of this seminar is to share the latest developments in the palm oil industry with the importers, traders and manufacturers to improve product understanding and functionality.”Palm oil has been used by the Pakistan oils and fats industry for almost 4 decades and is a key ingredient in a wide range of food and non-food products. Pakistan imports approximately 3 million tons of palm oil and its fractions both in bulk and finished products.Papers were presented by MPOC officials, Mr. Faudzy Asrafudeen, Mr. Faisal Iqbal, Mr. Teah Yau Kun and Mr. Muslimin Hashim, on an overview of the global palm oil market; the role of palm oil in the oils and fats and food sectors of Pakistan; food applications of palm oil, diversification, technical advantages and superiority in food and the health and nutritional attributes of palm oil. Mr. Rasheed Janmohammad,Chief Executive Officer of Mapak Edible Oil (Pvt.) Limited also shared his views on the potential of the Pakistani market and price outlook for palm oil. The participants at the event were pleased with the informative papers presented and expressed the hope that MPOC would continue to organize similar events in the future.
