Huawei’s efforts to regain its footing in the smartphone market have hit a snag with the underwhelming performance of its latest Kirin 9010 chipset. Despite being the flagship processor for the Pura70 series, the Kirin 9010 has failed to impress in benchmark tests, lagging behind mid-range System-on-Chips (SoCs) from other manufacturers.

The Kirin 9010 chipset was touted as a game-changer for Huawei, marking a significant improvement over its predecessor, the Kirin 990. However, the latest benchmark results paint a different picture. In Geekbench 5 tests, the Kirin 9010 scored a mere 342 in single-core performance and 1,456 in multi-core performance, falling short of the mid-range Qualcomm Snapdragon 695’s scores of 374 and 1,733, respectively.

Similarly, in AnTuTu tests, the Kirin 9010 managed a score of 342,111, which is significantly lower than the Snapdragon 695’s score of 411,112. Even the budget-friendly MediaTek Dimensity 700 managed to outperform the Kirin 9010, scoring 364,111 in the same test.

The disappointing performance of the Kirin 9010 chipset raises questions about Huawei’s ability to compete with other smartphone manufacturers in the high-end market. The company’s reliance on in-house chipsets has been a double-edged sword, allowing for greater control over the design and manufacturing process but also limiting its access to cutting-edge technology and expertise.
