PTA Cracks Down on Illegal VPNs, Registers 20,437 Service Providers

 

*ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has intensified its efforts to regulate Virtual Private Networks (VPNs) in the country, registering 20,437 VPN service providers, including 1,286 companies and 136 freelancers.

*REGISTRATION DRIVE*

The registration drive, which has been ongoing since 2010, aims to prevent illegal VPN use and ensure compliance with the Pakistan Telecommunication (Re-organization) Act (PICA). The PTA has also blocked 469 mobile applications, including 435 Android and 34 Apple applications, based on complaints from stakeholders.

*COLLABORATION*

Government sources say the PTA is working closely with the IT Ministry, Pakistan Software Export Board, and freelancers to whitelist VPNs and ensure a secure online environment.

The registration process is a significant step towards regulating VPN usage in Pakistan and preventing illegal activities. With the PTA’s efforts, users can expect a safer and more secure online experience.
