Three Brothers Sentenced to Double Death Penalty for Murder in Land Dispute in Pakistan

Shakargarh, Pakistan – In a landmark ruling, an additional sessions judge in Shakargarh has sentenced three brothers to double death penalty for the murder of two brothers over a land dispute. The convicts were also fined Rs. 6 million in damages.
The incident occurred in Sultanpur, in the jurisdiction of Noor Kot Police Station, where the convicts opened fire on the victims, resulting in their deaths. The convicted individuals, identified as Imran Khan, Ali Hassan Khan, and Irfan Khan, were found guilty of murder and have been transferred to district jail to serve their sentences. The verdict was announced by Judge Amir Mukhtar Gondal.
According to reports, the dispute originated from the victims tethering their donkey on a piece of land that was contested. This seemingly trivial act escalated into a violent confrontation, leading to the tragic loss of lives.
This case highlights the pressing issue of land disputes in Pakistan, which often escalate into violence and bloodshed. The double death penalty handed down in this case underscores the severity of the crime and the judiciary’s commitment to upholding justice.
