Pedestrian Bridge Collapse at Khanewal Railway Junction

Khanewal, Pakistan – A section of a pedestrian bridge at Khanewal Railway Junction Station collapsed, resulting in one railway employee’s death and a female passenger sustaining severe injuries.

The pedestrian bridge, reportedly constructed 50 years ago, gave way, trapping a railway ticket collector and a female passenger under the debris. Rescue 1122 teams promptly arrived at the scene. They extricated the injured female passenger and transferred her in critical condition to the District Hospital. The body of the deceased railway ticket collector, Muhammad Akram, was also recovered from the rubble and moved to the hospital.
Muhammad Akram, who hailed from Lahore, was at the station to board the Business Train for duty when the accident occurred. The collapsed bridge was the sole link for passengers to access platforms 1 and 2, and its collapse has now completely cut off passenger access to these main platforms.
