NBP Collaborates with NAB on SmartPay Portal to Enable Online Fund Transfers

Islamabad, October 13, 2025 — The National Bank of Pakistan (NBP) has taken another major step in driving digital transformation and promoting cashless banking in Pakistan. In collaboration with the National Accountability Bureau (NAB), NBP has launched a Cash Management Payment Portal (SmartPay) to enable fast, secure, and paperless online fund transfers for citizens.

This initiative reflects NBP’s commitment to delivering efficient and transparent digital payment solutions, while supporting government institutions with reliable electronic services.

Signing Ceremony Marks a Key Milestone

A formal signing ceremony was held at NAB Headquarters to mark this development. The event was led by Chairman NAB Lt. Gen. Nazir Ahmed (R) and attended by Syed Farooq Hasan, Group Head (A), NBP, along with senior officials from both organizations. During the ceremony, the NAB Chairman initiated the first online transfer of funds, directly crediting the bank accounts of affectees.

From Manual Pay Orders to Instant Digital Transfers

Previously, NAB disbursed recovered funds through bulk pay orders issued via NBP’s relationship branch. This manual process involved physical visits, paperwork, and delays. The new SmartPay portal has replaced this with a fully digital disbursement system, ensuring funds are transferred directly to beneficiaries’ accounts in a secure and timely manner.

Enhancing Transparency and Public Trust

The new system speeds up refund processing while offering enhanced security and ease for citizens. It plays a key role in promoting transparency and operational efficiency in Pakistan’s financial ecosystem. By digitizing the fund transfer process, NBP and NAB are setting a new standard for public service delivery.

NBP’s Commitment to Digital Innovation

NBP continues to strengthen its position as a leader in digital banking by supporting initiatives that protect citizens and build trust in financial institutions. This collaboration with NAB is part of NBP’s broader strategy to support cashless banking, innovation, and public sector digitization.

The launch of the SmartPay portal reflects NBP’s ongoing commitment to innovation and its role as a trusted partner in creating a secure, efficient, and citizen-friendly financial ecosystem.
