Gwadar: A rare Indo-Pacific finless porpoise was found dead along the Gwadar–Ormara coastline, raising serious concerns among marine experts and environmentalists.
Marine biologist Abdul Raheem Baloch expressed deep alarm over the incident, stating that illegal trawling, banned plastic fishing nets, and destructive fishing practices pose a severe threat to marine life along Balochistan’s coastal belt.
He added that traditional but dangerous fishing techniques are causing the decline and destruction of dolphins and other vulnerable sea species.
Baloch further warned that the smuggling of petroleum products through sea routes is also harming the delicate marine ecosystem.
According to experts, the coastal waters of Balochistan are increasingly becoming a “death zone” for rare and endangered marine species due to human activities and unchecked exploitation.
