Pakistan will honor its best freelancers for the first time through a new Top Freelancer Award, introduced by the Pakistan Software Export Board (PSEB) as part of the PSEB IT Export Awards 2026. The award aims to recognize the important role freelancers play in increasing the country’s IT exports and strengthening the digital economy.
According to PSEB, Pakistani freelancers earned more than $1.1 billion in export income during the financial year 2025-26. This was a major contribution to Pakistan’s record $4.6 billion in total IT and IT-enabled services exports. The government believes that freelancers have become an important part of the country’s technology sector, and this award is meant to appreciate their hard work and achievements.
PSEB has invited all eligible and registered freelancers across Pakistan to apply for the new award. To qualify, applicants must have received payments from international clients through official banking channels. They must also submit Proceeds Realisation Certificates (PRCs) issued by banks as proof that they earned export income between July 2025 and June 2026.
Applicants will also need to provide a signed declaration confirming that all the information and documents they submit are accurate and genuine.
The Chairman of the Pakistan Freelancers Association (PAFLA), Ibrahim Amin, welcomed the government’s decision. He said the new award is an important step because it officially recognizes the valuable contribution freelancers make to Pakistan’s economy.
He added that the award will encourage more freelancers to improve their professional skills, attract higher-paying international clients, and increase the country’s export earnings. According to him, recognition at the national level can motivate digital professionals to perform even better.
Ibrahim Amin also suggested that the government should provide additional support to successful freelancers by helping them transform their freelance businesses into technology startups. He recommended offering assistance so that Pakistani freelancers can participate in major international technology exhibitions, business conferences, and global networking events. This would help them showcase Pakistani talent, find new business opportunities, and attract international investment.
He further said that Pakistan currently has nearly three million freelancers, making it one of the world’s fastest-growing freelance markets. Thousands of students are also expected to join the digital workforce in the coming months as interest in freelancing and online work continues to grow.
According to Amin, recognizing outstanding freelancers through national awards will inspire young people to choose freelancing as a career and contribute to Pakistan’s growing digital economy.
PSEB has announced that August 2026 will be the deadline for submitting nominations for the awards.
Besides the newly introduced Top Freelancer Award, the PSEB IT Export Awards 2026 will also recognize excellence in six other categories. These include IT Exporter Awards, Startup Growth Awards, Women-Led Growth Awards, International Business Contract Awards, Domestic Business Awards, and Industry Growth Awards.
The introduction of the Top Freelancer Award shows that the government is giving greater importance to Pakistan’s freelance community. By recognizing successful freelancers and encouraging digital entrepreneurship, Pakistan hopes to further increase its IT exports, create more employment opportunities, and strengthen its position in the global digital economy.
