Peshawar Zalmi’s captain and star batsman, Babar Azam, attributed his extraordinary century against Islamabad United in the Pakistan Super League (PSL 9 ) season nine to a special spectator in the stands – his mother.
In a post-match interview, Azam revealed that his mother attended a match for the first time, proving to be a source of good luck for him. Expressing joy over his mother’s presence, he said, “She always watches at home but she proved to be [a source of] good luck for me. She came to watch the match, and I scored a hundred.”
Azam’s 11th T20 century played a pivotal role in Peshawar Zalmi’s victory over Islamabad United by eight runs in the 13th match of PSL 9. His unbeaten 111-run innings, coupled with Arif Yaqoob’s historic five-wicket haul, secured Peshawar’s third consecutive win in the competition.
Islamabad seemed on course for victory, driven by a formidable partnership between Colin Munro and Azam Khan. However, Yaqoob’s exceptional four-wicket over in the 19th over shifted the momentum in Peshawar’s favor, securing a thrilling win.
Scores in brief: Peshawar Zalmi 201-5, 20 overs (Babar Azam 111 not out, Saim Ayub 38; Shadab Khan 2-28) Islamabad United 193-9, 20 overs (Azam Khan 75, Colin Munro 71; Arif Yaqoob 5-27)
