Government of Pakistan Reshuffles Key Positions in the Ministry of Interior

Islamabad, Special Report: In a recent development within the Ministry of Interior, significant changes have been made to the departmental structure and key appointments. These adjustments are aimed at strengthening the management of visa-related affairs in light of the ongoing challenges at the national level.

Appointment of Deputy Secretary (Visa)

The Ministry of Interior, with the approval of the competent authority, has officially appointed Ms. Shireen Hina Asghar as the Deputy Secretary (Visa) on a current charge basis. This appointment is effective immediately and will continue for a period of three months or until a regular incumbent is appointed, whichever comes first. Ms. Asghar, who currently holds the position of Section Officer (BS-18), is expected to bring her experience and expertise to this crucial role.

The appointment was formalized through Office Order No.F.4/3/2024-Admn-l, issued by Imran Asghar, the Section Officer (Admn-1) of the Ministry. This decision underscores the government’s commitment to ensuring that visa processing and management remain efficient and secure, particularly given the heightened scrutiny on border management.

Re-designation of Deputy Secretary (PE) Post

In a related move, the Ministry has also re-designated the position of Deputy Secretary (PE) under the Border Management Wing to Deputy Secretary (Visa). This change reflects the evolving needs of the Ministry and the increased focus on visa-related matters. The re-designation was formalized through Office Order No.1/4/2017-Admn-l, signed by Umran Asghar, Section Officer (Admn-1).

This re-designation is seen as a strategic move to streamline operations within the Border Management Wing, ensuring that visa issues are addressed with the utmost priority. The Deputy Secretary (Visa) will now play a pivotal role in overseeing visa policies, coordination with foreign missions, and ensuring the integrity of the visa issuance process.

Implications and Next Steps

These changes are part of a broader effort by the Ministry of Interior to enhance its administrative capabilities in managing Pakistan’s borders and regulating the entry and exit of foreign nationals. The appointments and re-designations reflect the government’s proactive approach to addressing the challenges posed by increasing global mobility and the need for robust border management.

The Ministry has communicated these changes to all concerned departments and officials, emphasizing the importance of a smooth transition and the continued focus on national security and administrative efficiency.

Under the dynamic leadership of Secretary Interior Capt. (R) Khuram Agha, These developments are expected to bring about positive changes in the visa management process, ensuring that it meets the highest standards of scrutiny and efficiency, in line with the government’s broader objectives for national security and border management.
