Q&A Section (Question & Answer)

Flare: Kindly introduce MarCom and its core areas of work.
Established in 2016, MarCom (Private) Limited is a full-service advertising, communications and brand advisory firm operating in Islamabad, Lahore, Karachi and Peshawar.
Accredited by APNS, PBA, PID and PAA, it provides strategic brand consultancy, advertising and media planning, production, digital communications and institutional reputation management. MarCom combines strategic insight, creative excellence and nationwide execution, serving public, private and development-sector organisations across Pakistan.

Flare: How has Pakistan’s media and communications landscape changed?
Pakistan’s media landscape has shifted from print, television and radio towards a digital-first, fragmented, interactive and increasingly AI-enabled environment. While traditional media remains important, brands increasingly use social media, short-form video, digital publishing, targeted media buying, influencers and performance marketing. Audiences have also become active participants, engaging with and amplifying content in real time. AI is accelerating this transformation through audience research, content creation, personalisation, campaign analysis and workflow efficiency. However, technology does not replace human strategy, creativity, judgement and ethical responsibility.
The agency’s role has evolved from media and creative intermediary to strategic communicators and brand partner. At MarCom, we combine traditional media credibility with digital innovation, data-driven decisions and responsible AI adoption.

Flare: What are MarCom’s principal services and strongest sectors?
MarCom is a 360° marketing communications and brand advisory firm offering strategic consultancy, creative development, advertising, media planning and buying, digital and performance marketing, 4K/UHD production, PR and reputation management, experiential campaigns, social media, content development and nationwide outreach.
It also provides institutional communications, stakeholder engagement and strategic matchmaking, managing campaigns from planning through execution and measurement. With experience spanning 100+ clients, MarCom serves government, NGOs, international development organisations, education, finance, healthcare, technology, aviation, FMCG and corporate sectors. Its strength lies in combining local market knowledge with international standards and nationwide capabilities.

Flare: How are digital platforms, AI and data analytics changing brand communication and PR in Pakistan?
Digital platforms, AI and data analytics have transformed communication into real-time, targeted and measurable engagement. MarCom uses these tools to understand audiences, optimise media, personalise content, monitor sentiment and improve campaign performance. AI also supports creative development, research, reporting and workflow efficiency, while digital monitoring helps identify emerging reputational risks.
Technology remains an enabler, not a replacement for human creativity, strategic judgement and cultural understanding. MarCom combines AI and data with human insight to deliver relevant, responsible and authentic communication.

Flare: What are the principal challenges facing advertising, PR and communications agencies?
The industry faces growing emphasis on short-term virality, superficial metrics and influencer visibility at the expense of long-term brand strategy and reputation.
Professional integrity and transparency are also concerns, with informal commissions, favouritism and shortcuts creating an uneven playing field.
MarCom maintains a zero-tolerance approach to corruption, and unethical practices. It believes credibility, transparency and merit are essential to effective communication and long-term industry trust.

Flare: How has client demand changed with the shift towards digital and social platforms?
Clients increasingly demand speed, flexibility, lower costs and measurable results, while digital platforms allow campaigns to launch almost instantly.
AI has accelerated this trend, with clients able to create content themselves. However, content creation is not the same as building a brand or communication strategy. Agencies add value by determining what to communicate, to whom, where, when and why.
MarCom sees growing demand for agencies that combine speed, strategy, creativity, media intelligence and measurable outcomes. Digital tools should make communication smarter and faster—not replace professional expertise.

Flare: What role do credibility, reputation management and responsible communication play today?
Credibility is one of the most valuable yet vulnerable assets a brand or institution possesses. In today’s digital environment, information and misinformation spread instantly, making accuracy, transparency and consistency essential.
Reputation is shaped by every communication, customer interaction and digital conversation. At MarCom, reputation management begins before a crisis through stakeholder understanding, honest communication and risk anticipation.
Responsible communication is ultimately about earning trust, protecting reputation and building long-term brand equity.

Flare: How do you assess the growth potential of Pakistan’s advertising and communications industry over the next five years?
We are optimistic about the industry’s growth, driven by Pakistan’s young, connected and mobile-first population.
Three key opportunities are:

  • AI, Data & Performance Marketing: Greater use of AI, audience targeting, automation and measurable ROI.

  • Digital & Regional Storytelling: Growing demand for localised Urdu, Punjabi, Pashto, Sindhi and other regional-language content.

  • Purpose-Led & Institutional Communication: Continued demand for campaigns addressing health, education, financial inclusion, climate resilience, digital literacy and behavioural change.
Traditional media will remain important for reach and credibility, while greater integration with digital technologies will create new opportunities.
The next five years will favour agencies combining strategy, creativity, technology, data and strong execution.

Flare: What message would you like to give to businesses and young professionals entering Pakistan’s communications and media industry?
In reply, Sardar Zaheer Zaufran, Chief Executive Officer, said true leadership is built on integrity, transparency and responsibility. Be honest about every rupee spent, honour commitments and recognise that people are your greatest asset.
To business leaders: do not sacrifice long-term brand equity for short-term visibility. Sustainable value comes from ethical governance, consistent performance and trust.
To young professionals: take education and professional development seriously. Learn the business from the ground up and master strategy, creativity, media, finance and client management.
