Mohammad Hafeez Criticizes Lahore Qalandars’ Player Development Program

In a candid revelation, ex-cricketer Mohammad Hafeez has criticized Lahore Qalandars’ Player Development Program (PDP), asserting that Haris Rauf stands as the solitary international-level product from the system in its nine years of existence.

Speaking to a private news channel, Hafeez expressed his viewpoint, stating, “In the nine years (of PSL), PDP has made one international-level product, which is Haris Rauf.”

Hafeez’s critique comes amid Lahore Qalandars’ challenging start to PSL 9, having lost their first two matches. He went on to suggest that while the PDP might contribute to Lahore Qalandars’ marketing strategy, it has not consistently produced talent for the national team.

Former Lahore Qalandars player Azhar Ali added to the criticism, noting, “They (Lahore) even add Shaheen Shah Afridi and Fakhar Zaman to the PDP, but they were already a part of the PCB system.”

Hafeez did provide some acknowledgment, mentioning that the franchise supports players financially when they are in need. However, he emphasized that financial support does not necessarily translate to a consistent production of international-level talent.

Misbah-ul-Haq, another panelist on the show, mentioned Mirza Tahir Baig as another product of the PDP but noted that he might not be fully prepared for international cricket.

This debate sheds light on the challenges and successes of Lahore Qalandars’ PDP, raising questions about its effectiveness in nurturing and delivering top-tier talent for the national squad during PSL 9.
