Islamabad – Two Pakistani nationals, Zahid Rafique Pasha and Muhammad Faheem Akram, were arrested in the Philippines on June 6, 2024, after being found in possession of $4 million worth of ketamine. While Akram has been released on bail, Pasha remains in custody.
The Pakistani Embassy in Manila has been actively involved in the case, providing consular assistance to the detainees and liaising with local authorities. The embassy has confirmed that Pasha’s bail application was recently rejected, but he is expected to apply for bail again soon.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Islamabad has received multiple complaints from Pasha’s wife, who has appealed for the government’s intervention in the case. The ministry has assured her that they are monitoring the situation closely and providing all necessary support to the embassy in Manila.
The case has garnered significant attention in both Pakistan and the Philippines, with many questioning the severity of the charges and the length of Pasha’s detention. The Pakistani government has called for a fair and transparent trial, urging the Philippine authorities to expedite the legal process.
