POA Takes Charge: New Committee to Shape Olympic Future

Lahore, Zubair Kasuri, The Pakistan Olympic Association (POA) ushered in the new year with a significant administrative move, announcing the formation of a Constitution and Affiliation Committee on January 4th, 2025. POA President Arif Saeed constituted the committee, which is poised to play a pivotal role in shaping the organization’s future by overseeing applications from aspiring member federations, proposing constitutional amendments, and providing expert counsel on legal and electoral matters.

Leading this influential committee is Lt Col (R) Raja Wasim Ahmed, President of the Pakistan Taekwondo Federation, who will serve as Chairman. He is joined by a diverse and accomplished group of individuals from various sporting backgrounds:
Mr. Muhammad Jahangir: Deputy Secretary General, POA (Deputy Chairman)
Syed Ali Raza: Legal Advisor, POA (Member)
Mr. Rana Mujahid Ali: Secretary General, Pakistan Hockey Federation (Member)
Group Captain Muhammad Imran Qureshi: Director Sports & Physical Education, PAF (Member)
Ms. Shireen Hina: Head Women Wing, Pakistan Rugby Union (Member)
Mr. Aamir Sabir: Legal Advisor, KPOA (Member)
Mr. Muhammad Imran: Manager Secretariat, POA (Member/Coordinator)
Mr. Muhammad Khalid Mahmood: Secretary General, POA (Secretary)
The committee’s mandate is comprehensive, encompassing a broad spectrum of responsibilities:
* Evaluating Membership: Thoroughly assessing national federations and other entities seeking affiliation with the POA.
* Constitutional Review: Initiating and reviewing proposals for amendments to the POA Constitution to ensure it remains relevant and effective.
* Expert Counsel: Providing informed recommendations to the President, Executive Committee, and General Council on constitutional interpretations, affiliate issues, and electoral procedures.
* Dispute Resolution: Holding meetings to address complaints and matters referred by the POA President, promoting fairness and transparency.
The POA has emphasized the importance of transparency and efficiency in the committee’s operations, requiring a quorum of at least four members for any meeting. The POA Secretariat will provide logistical support, and the committee is expected to deliver an annual report to the General Council.
This proactive step taken by the POA demonstrates its dedication to good governance and the seamless operation of its affiliated bodies. The Constitution and Affiliation Committee is expected to streamline procedures, enhance organizational efficiency, and ultimately strengthen the POA’s position as the leading force for sports development in Pakistan.
