Umar Akmal has jumped to the defense of his cousin, cricket star Babar Azam, shutting down critics who’ve been harsh on Babar’s recent struggles in the HBL Pakistan Super League (PSL X).
A Fiery Defense
While chatting on Ahmed Ali Butt’s podcast during a PSL match between Islamabad United and Peshawar Zalmi, Umar was asked which player didn’t belong in Pakistan’s squad. When another guest pointed at Babar, Umar didn’t hold back. “Babar led Pakistan as captain for five years—how can you say that?” he snapped, clearly annoyed.
Umar, who’s also Babar’s cousin, praised Babar’s stellar record and global fame. “Just because he’s in a rough patch, we shouldn’t talk him down,” he said, calling for fans to show respect and patience for the batting ace.
Babar’s Tough Spot
Babar, now leading Peshawar Zalmi, has had a rocky start in PSL X, scoring just one run in two innings. Zalmi lost both opening games, and Babar’s dip in form has sparked chatter, especially after he was left out of Pakistan’s T20 team for a recent New Zealand tour.
Umar’s Plea for Support
Umar, who hasn’t played for Pakistan since 2019, wrapped up by saying, “You can’t talk about Babar like this.” He urged fans to cheer Babar on instead of tearing him down during this slump.
Eyes on Babar
As PSL X rolls on, all eyes are on Babar Azam. Can he bounce back, rediscover his magic, and quiet the doubters? Fans are rooting for a comeback!
