Government Strengthens National Narrative Against Terrorism

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif chaired a high-level session bringing together federal and provincial authorities to address the persistent threat of terrorism in the country.

Held at the Prime Minister’s House, the meeting saw participation from representatives of all four provinces, Azad Kashmir, Gilgit-Baltistan, and senior military and civilian officials, as reported by Express News.

A major point of discussion was the Jaffar Express attack, with the leadership vowing to identify and expose those responsible on an international scale. Additionally, the participants focused on combating anti-state narratives spreading across traditional and digital media.

To strengthen the National Action Plan (NAP), the National Narrative Committee was tasked with formulating a more robust and proactive strategy to counter terrorism and extremism effectively.

Regulating Content to Safeguard National Interests

The leadership resolved to curb misinformation, propaganda, and content harmful to national security. It was decided that strict measures would be implemented to prevent the spread of misleading information and counter narratives that threaten national stability.

Engaging Youth Through Media and Education

Recognizing the influence of media on youth, the government decided to integrate national themes into films and television dramas to foster patriotism and discourage extremist ideologies. Provincial governments have pledged full support to this initiative.

Furthermore, efforts will be made to leverage digital media platforms for spreading positive national messages, countering the psychological and social effects of terrorism, and addressing fake news, particularly on social media.

Tackling Deepfake Videos and Strengthening Digital Awareness

The meeting emphasized the growing threat of deepfake videos and other digital fabrications, urging the use of credible and verified information to combat misinformation.

Additionally, it was resolved that awareness of terrorism and extremism will be incorporated into the national education curriculum, ensuring that future generations understand the risks and consequences of radicalization.
