Rabat — The Republic of Senegal has reaffirmed its firm and steadfast support for the Kingdom of Morocco’s territorial integrity and full sovereignty over its entire national territory, including the Sahara region, underscoring its continued alignment with Morocco’s position on the long-standing regional dispute.

The position was articulated in a joint communiqué issued following the meeting of the Morocco–Senegal High Joint Partnership Commission, held Monday in Rabat and co-chaired by Morocco’s Head of Government, Aziz Akhannouch, and Senegalese Prime Minister Ousmane Sonko.

According to the communiqué, Senegal once again expressed its full backing for Morocco’s autonomy plan, presented under Moroccan sovereignty, describing it as the only credible, serious, and realistic framework capable of leading to a lasting political settlement. The Senegalese side emphasized that any resolution to the issue must take place within the exclusive framework of the United Nations.

Senegal also welcomed the adoption of United Nations Security Council Resolution 2797 on October 31, 2025, noting that the resolution enshrines Morocco’s autonomy initiative, within the framework of Moroccan sovereignty, as the sole serious and credible basis for reaching a durable political solution to the Sahara question.

Officials from both countries highlighted the depth of Morocco–Senegal relations, which are rooted in longstanding political, economic, and cultural ties. The two sides reaffirmed their commitment to further strengthening strategic cooperation and coordination on regional and international issues of mutual interest.

The renewed Senegalese position adds to growing international support for Morocco’s autonomy plan, reflecting a broader consensus around its role as a practical and realistic pathway toward stability and development in the region.
