Quetta Gladiators’ pacer, Mohammad Wasim Junior, expressed his admiration for the “world-class” Mohammad Amir, highlighting the joy he experiences while bowling alongside the seasoned bowler. Wasim’s praise for Amir came after a stellar performance by the duo in the recent Pakistan Super League (PSL 9) Season 9 match against Islamabad United.
In a post-match news conference, Wasim shared his enthusiasm for partnering with Amir, acknowledging the veteran’s prowess in both the initial and death overs. “I am enjoying bowling with Mohammad Amir, who is a world-class bowler. The way he bowls at the start and then in the death overs, I am really enjoying bowling alongside him,” stated Wasim.
Wasim’s exceptional bowling on Thursday night played a crucial role in Quetta Gladiators restricting Islamabad United to 138-9 at the Gaddafi Stadium. The young pacer claimed three wickets for 20 runs in his allotted four overs.
Reflecting on his performance, Wasim attributed his success to executing the team’s plans effectively. “I did not bowl well in the previous matches, but today I bowled with a plan. I had been told not to go after wickets and hit a hard length,” he explained. Wasim also credited the supportive environment and guidance provided by the Quetta Gladiators’ management.
Addressing the impact of the coaching staff, including head coach Shane Watson and bowling coach Shan Tait, Wasim emphasized their positive influence on the team. “Although I am playing for Quetta for the first time, its management, featuring head coach Shane Watson and bowling coach Shan Tait, with whom I have also worked in the national team, are guiding us well,” he remarked.
Wasim highlighted the significance of Amir’s presence in the team, describing it as a “huge plus” due to Amir’s exceptional skills as a bowler. He noted that the momentum shifted towards Quetta when Salman Ali Agha got run out, praising Agha’s fantastic start and contribution to the team.
Regarding the team’s performance and the changes in coaching staff for PSL 9, Wasim commended the well-formed combination within Quetta Gladiators. “The way our combination has been formed, it’s very good. Change of captaincy does not matter much; what matters is the team combination, and we have a fine combination,” concluded Wasim.
