PEMRA CLARIFIES DTH LICENCE CONTROVERSY

Islamabad, Pakistan – The Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA) has shed light on the controversy surrounding the award of Direct-to-Home (DTH) licences, citing extraordinary circumstances for the delay in service launch.

According to PEMRA Chairman, three bidders emerged successful in a transparent bidding process, but two withdrew due to incomplete legal formalities. The sole remaining bidder blamed the COVID-19 pandemic and economic downturn for failing to initiate DTH services.

PEMRA is currently reviewing the case and will announce a final decision soon. This update follows a citizen’s complaint seeking clarification on the status of DTH licences.
