Islamabad, Pakistan – Telenor Pakistan recently hosted a crucial breast cancer awareness session for its employees at its Islamabad headquarters. Partnering with Shifa Foundation, the telecom giant emphasized the importance of early detection and proactive health measures in combating breast cancer, a disease posing a significant threat to women in Pakistan.
The session addressed the alarming lack of awareness surrounding breast cancer, which often leads to delayed diagnoses and decreased survival rates. Areej Khan, Chief People Officer at Telenor Pakistan, stressed the company’s commitment to health awareness and empowering individuals with knowledge to share within their communities.
Dr. Sana Sayeed, a consultant radiologist at Shifa International Hospital, delivered a compelling presentation highlighting the life-saving impact of early detection. She emphasized the sobering statistic that Pakistan has the highest incidence of breast cancer in Asia, with 1 in 9 women facing the risk of diagnosis. However, early detection can dramatically boost survival rates to 90%.
This initiative aligns with global efforts to raise awareness during Breast Cancer Awareness Month, observed annually in October. Telenor Pakistan’s commitment to employee wellbeing and community health underscores its dedication to corporate social responsibility.
