HARARE, ZIMBABWE – Mr. Martin Mulenga, a Zambian national residing in Kitwe, has filed a complaint with the Zambian Embassy in Harare alleging fraudulent activity by a company called “Car Capital Japan.” Mr. Mulenga claims he paid USD 11,000 for a Mitsubishi Rosa bus in July 2023, which he has yet to receive.
The company, which purports to be located at 220E Front St. Burlington, NC 27215, appears to be operating with Pakistani WhatsApp contacts. Mr. Mulenga has provided the embassy with three Pakistani phone numbers allegedly used by the company, along with an invoice, account statement inquiry, WhatsApp chat logs, and copies of his passport and ID card.
The Zambian Embassy has forwarded the complaint to the Pakistani Ministry of Interior, requesting assistance in tracing the SIM cards and identifying the individuals involved. The embassy is seeking either the recovery of Mr. Mulenga’s payment or the delivery of the purchased bus.
This case highlights the growing concern of international fraud schemes utilizing online platforms and cross-border communication. Authorities are urging consumers to exercise caution when conducting online transactions and to verify the legitimacy of companies before making payments.
