Islamabad | January 29, 2026 – Zong, Pakistan’s leading information services and technology innovation company, has joined hands with the Pakistan Environmental Protection Agency (Pak-EPA) to launch a major Tree Plantation Drive in Islamabad under its Green and Low Carbon Initiatives. This partnership marks an important step toward promoting environmental sustainability through strong public-private collaboration.

The agreement was officially signed during a ceremony held at Zong Headquarters in Islamabad. The initiative was inaugurated with the plantation of the first sapling by Syed Abrar Hussain, Director General Pak-EPA; Dr. Mohsina Zubair, Director Pak-EPA; Nabila Yazdani, Head of Corporate Communications, Brand and Sustainability at Zong; and Andleeb Aslam, Deputy Director Corporate Communications and Sustainability at Zong.

As part of this drive, around 3,500 indigenous trees will be planted across selected areas of Islamabad. The project aims to tackle major environmental issues such as climate change, rising air pollution, loss of biodiversity, and the negative effects of rapid urbanization on the capital’s natural ecosystem. By planting native tree species, the initiative will help restore green cover while ensuring long-term ecological balance.

Speaking at the event, Nabila Yazdani highlighted that environmental responsibility is a core part of Zong’s business and innovation strategy. She stated that this tree plantation drive reflects the company’s commitment to embedding sustainability into its operations and working closely with national institutions to create lasting environmental impact. She added that Zong believes in taking practical steps that benefit both the community and the environment, especially in urban centers like Islamabad.

Syed Abrar Hussain, Director General Pak-EPA, emphasized the importance of collective action in addressing environmental challenges. He noted that this partnership demonstrates how effective cooperation between public and private organizations can lead to meaningful and measurable environmental benefits. According to him, the initiative will strengthen Islamabad’s green infrastructure while improving air quality, enhancing biodiversity, and increasing the city’s resilience to climate-related risks.

Beyond tree plantation, the partnership also includes public awareness campaigns to encourage community participation and promote a culture of environmental stewardship. These campaigns will focus on educating citizens about the importance of trees, responsible environmental behavior, and sustainable living practices. Community involvement is expected to play a key role in ensuring the success and long-term impact of the project.

Environmental experts believe that initiatives like this contribute significantly to carbon sequestration and help reduce the urban heat island effect, a growing problem in major cities. Increased green cover also supports wildlife habitats and improves overall quality of life for residents by creating healthier and cleaner surroundings.

Through this collaboration with Pak-EPA, Zong continues to strengthen its commitment to sustainable development, environmental protection, and community well-being. The company’s efforts reflect a broader vision of supporting a greener and more resilient future for Pakistan by combining innovation, corporate responsibility, and national partnerships.

This large-scale Tree Plantation Drive stands as a positive example of how businesses and government institutions can work together to protect the environment and build a sustainable future for coming generations.
