NAB has started an inquiry into PTA’s failure to collect dues from telecom companies

Karachi, Zubair Kasuri: From 10 major telecom companies After taking action by the Prime Minister of Pakistan, Mian Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif, on the news of more than 75 billion rupees damage to the national treasury.

The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) Karachi has launched an inquiry into the failure of the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) to collect billions of rupees dues from B Wireless Local Loop (WLL) and Long Distance International (LDI) companies  of Pakistan Telecom Authority
According to the sources, the national treasury has suffered huge financial loss due to the negligence of PTA, NAB has indicated the action in this regard.

Karachi NAB Bureau has issued a call-up notice, number NABK20181004144116/IW-1/CO-A/NAB(K)/2024, directing the Director General Licensing of PTA to appear before the enquiry. has been done .

NAB has also asked the PTA to bring all relevant records and documents related to the case, the letter said

Details of outstanding dues of WLL and LDI companies and
Records of payments made by telecom companies
Correspondence with telecom companies regarding dues
Includes internal inquiries and reports related to the case

Failure to comply with the notice may lead to further action under the National Accountability Ordinance (NAO) 1999, including arrest and prosecution.

Sources of Pakistan Telecom Authority have said that a telecom company has provided details to the NAB administration on which the NAB administration has asked for records and said that the development comes as part of NAB’s efforts to tackle corruption and ensure accountability in government institutions.

The inquiry is expected to shed light on the circumstances leading to the PTA’s failure to collect dues and those responsible for the financial losses.
