Karachi Electronics Dealers Association Raises Alarm Over “Short-Term Kidnappings” by Alleged FIA Agents

KARACHI, PAKISTAN – The Karachi Electronics Dealers Association (KEDA) has issued an urgent plea to the Federal Minister of Interior, highlighting a disturbing trend of “short-term kidnappings” targeting electronics dealers in the city’s bustling Saddar market. In a letter dated November 11th, 2024, KEDA President Muhammad Rizwan detailed two recent incidents involving alleged FIA personnel who abducted, robbed, and threatened electronics retailers.

According to the letter, Mr. Rashid, owner of Air Voice, was kidnapped outside Star City Mall on November 5th by individuals claiming to be FIA agents. He was held for hours, tortured, and robbed of Rs. 150,000 before being released near Atrium Mall.

In a separate incident, Mr. Ahmed of R.K Telecom was apprehended near his home on Jamshaid Road by similar individuals. He endured hours of threats and interrogation before being robbed of his mobile phones.

KEDA President Rizwan expressed deep concern over these incidents, emphasizing the negative impact on Karachi’s business community and the national economy. He called for immediate action to stop this harassment, demanding the return of stolen goods and an end to the targeting of electronics dealers.

Copies of the letter were also sent to the Secretary of the Ministry of Interior and the Director General of the FIA, underscoring the urgency of the situation.

This alarming development raises serious questions about the safety of Karachi’s business community and the potential involvement of law enforcement agencies in criminal activities.
