LinkedIn Cracks Down on AI Spam

LinkedIn is introducing a new feature to reduce low-quality AI-generated content on its platform. Some users can now see a new “Seems like AI slop” option in the three-dot menu on posts. This allows people to report posts that appear to rely too much on AI and do not offer useful or original ideas.

LinkedIn Wants Better Quality Content

LinkedIn says it wants to make its news feed more useful by showing more authentic and meaningful posts. The company defines AI slop as content that is created with very little effort using AI. These posts may look professional and well-written, but they often lack real opinions, personal experience, or valuable insights.

Hari Srinivasan, LinkedIn’s Chief Product Officer, said that reducing AI slop has become one of the company’s biggest priorities. He explained that LinkedIn wants to promote genuine conversations and original ideas instead of generic AI-generated posts.

New Reporting Option

Users who have access to the new feature can report a post by selecting “Seems like AI slop” from the three-dot menu. Once a user reports a post, LinkedIn immediately hides that post from the person who reported it.

The feedback collected through this feature will also help LinkedIn improve its systems for finding and reducing low-quality AI content across the platform.

Smarter AI Detection

LinkedIn is using improved AI detection tools, known as classifiers, to identify posts that appear to be low-quality or heavily AI-generated. These systems analyze content and decide whether it looks authentic or simply generated by AI without meaningful input from the author.

The company says it has already been limiting the reach of these posts. If a post appears to be generic AI content with no original viewpoint, LinkedIn is less likely to recommend it to people outside the author’s own network.

According to LinkedIn, its early AI detection system was already able to correctly identify generic content about 94 percent of the time, and the new user feedback will help make it even more accurate.

Private Feedback for Creators

LinkedIn is also testing a feature that privately informs creators if other users believe their posts sound too artificial or rely too heavily on AI. This feedback will not be public but could help creators improve their content and make it sound more natural and personal.

AI-Written Posts Are Still Allowed

LinkedIn has made it clear that it is not banning AI-generated content. The company understands that many people use AI tools to improve grammar, organize ideas, or make their writing clearer.

However, LinkedIn wants users to share their own thoughts, experiences, and opinions instead of simply posting text generated entirely by AI. The company says AI should be used as a helpful writing assistant rather than replacing the user’s own voice.

LinkedIn Removes Its Own AI Writing Tool

As part of this effort, LinkedIn is removing its “Enhance your post” feature. This AI tool could rewrite a user’s post, sometimes changing the original tone and style.

The company will replace it with a simpler proofreading tool that focuses on fixing spelling and grammar mistakes while keeping the writer’s original voice and message unchanged.

More Verification and Less Automation

LinkedIn is also expanding profile and company page verification so users can more easily identify real people and trusted organizations. This is intended to build trust across the platform and reduce fake accounts.

The company is also continuing its fight against automated activity. Hari Srinivasan said LinkedIn blocks hundreds of thousands of automated comment attempts every day, along with millions of other automated actions over recent months.

With these new changes, LinkedIn hopes to create a platform where original ideas, real experiences, and genuine professional discussions receive more visibility, while low-quality AI-generated content becomes less common in users’ feed
