Tax Cases Worth Trillions Pending in Courts for Decades

FBR Fails to Recover Billions as Tax Cases Linger in Courts

The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has failed to recover billions of rupees in taxes due to these pending cases. The situation is further complicated by the fact that many cases have been pending for over two decades. Taxpayers are in limbo, unsure of how to proceed with their cases.

Over 27,000 Tax Cases Pending in Supreme Court, High Courts, and Appellate Tribunals

The Supreme Court has over 3,200 pending tax cases worth over Rs 95 billion. The Islamabad High Court has over 1,100 pending tax cases worth over Rs 18 billion. The Sindh High Court has over 2,600 pending tax cases worth over Rs 2 billion. The Lahore High Court has over 5,700 pending tax cases worth over Rs 4.5 billion.

Taxpayers in Limbo as Cases Drag On for Years

Appellate tribunals have over 62,000 pending tax cases worth over Rs 1.5 trillion. The Peshawar High Court has over 400 pending tax cases worth over Rs 1 billion. The Balochistan High Court has over 11 pending tax cases worth over Rs 300 million.
