Pakistan may soon receive significant investment from Saudi Arabia in its road and motorway sector, as Saudi investors have expressed strong interest in participating in some of the country’s major infrastructure projects.
This development came during a meeting between Federal Minister for Communications Abdul Aleem Khan and Saudi Pakistan Joint Business Council Chairman Prince Mansour bin Muhammad Al Saud. The meeting focused on strengthening economic cooperation between Pakistan and Saudi Arabia, particularly in the areas of transport, communications, and infrastructure development.
According to official sources, the Saudi delegation showed a keen interest in exploring investment opportunities in Pakistan’s motorway network. The discussions mainly revolved around several important road projects that are expected to improve connectivity, boost trade, and support economic growth across the country.
During the meeting, Federal Minister Abdul Aleem Khan invited Saudi investors and business groups to take part in Pakistan’s growing infrastructure sector. He highlighted several major motorway projects that are currently planned or under development and said these projects offer attractive investment opportunities for international partners.
Among the key projects discussed was the M6 Sukkur-Hyderabad Motorway. This motorway is considered one of the most important missing links in Pakistan’s motorway network. Once completed, it will connect Sukkur with Hyderabad and significantly improve travel and transportation between the northern and southern regions of the country.
The M6 project has been under discussion for several years and is expected to play a major role in improving the movement of goods and passengers. It will also strengthen trade routes that connect different provinces and industrial centers.
Another project highlighted during the meeting was the M10 Karachi Port Motorway. This road project is designed to improve access to Karachi Port, which is Pakistan’s largest and busiest seaport. Better road connectivity to the port will help reduce transportation costs, improve logistics efficiency, and facilitate both domestic and international trade.
The third major project presented to the Saudi delegation was the M13 Kharian-Rawalpindi Motorway. This motorway is expected to improve connectivity between important urban and commercial areas in Punjab. Improved transportation infrastructure in this region could support business activities, encourage investment, and reduce travel times for millions of people.
Speaking during the meeting, Abdul Aleem Khan said Pakistan’s motorway and road network has expanded significantly in recent years and continues to play a vital role in the country’s economic development.
He explained that modern highways and motorways not only make travel easier but also help connect markets, industries, ports, and trade centers. Better roads encourage business activity, create jobs, and attract investment from both local and foreign companies.
The minister emphasized that infrastructure development remains a priority for the government because strong transportation networks are essential for long-term economic growth. He noted that countries with efficient road systems are generally more competitive in international trade and investment.
Abdul Aleem Khan further stated that the motorway projects being offered to investors have strong commercial potential and are expected to generate attractive returns. He assured the Saudi delegation that the government is committed to creating a favorable investment environment and will provide all necessary support to interested investors.
The minister said Pakistan welcomes foreign investment and values the participation of international partners in its development projects. He added that investment from Saudi Arabia would not only help finance infrastructure projects but would also strengthen economic relations between the two brotherly countries.
Prince Mansour bin Muhammad Al Saud welcomed the opportunity to discuss investment prospects in Pakistan and expressed optimism about future cooperation.
He said the Saudi Pakistan Joint Business Council is interested in expanding collaboration in Pakistan’s communications, transportation, and infrastructure sectors. According to him, Saudi businesses are actively looking for investment opportunities that offer long-term growth potential, and Pakistan remains an important destination in this regard.
Prince Mansour noted that Pakistan’s large population, strategic location, and growing infrastructure needs create opportunities for investors seeking to participate in major development projects.
He further stated that Saudi Arabia is keen to strengthen economic ties with Pakistan and explore new areas of cooperation beyond traditional sectors. Investments in infrastructure, transportation, energy, technology, and communications are among the areas being considered for future collaboration.
The discussions also highlighted the longstanding friendship between Pakistan and Saudi Arabia. Both countries have maintained close diplomatic, economic, and cultural relations for decades.
Abdul Aleem Khan described the relationship between Pakistan and Saudi Arabia as deep-rooted, historic, and based on mutual trust and cooperation. He said the two countries have consistently supported each other on important regional and international issues.
Saudi Arabia has long been one of Pakistan’s most important economic partners. The Kingdom has provided financial assistance, investment support, and employment opportunities for millions of Pakistani workers over the years.
At the same time, Pakistan has contributed significantly to Saudi Arabia through its skilled workforce, professional services, and strong bilateral cooperation.
Officials believe that increased Saudi investment in Pakistan’s infrastructure sector could open a new chapter in economic relations between the two countries.
Large-scale investments in roads and motorways can bring several benefits to Pakistan’s economy. Improved infrastructure can reduce transportation costs, improve supply chain efficiency, facilitate trade, and attract additional investment into industrial and commercial sectors.
Infrastructure projects also generate employment opportunities during both the construction and operational phases. Thousands of workers, engineers, contractors, and service providers typically benefit from such large development initiatives.
In addition, better road connectivity can help integrate remote regions into the national economy, allowing businesses and communities to access larger markets and economic opportunities.
The Saudi delegation reportedly appreciated the government’s efforts to modernize Pakistan’s transportation infrastructure and expressed willingness to continue discussions regarding possible investment models.
Government officials assured the delegation that investor-friendly policies and facilitation mechanisms would be provided to ensure smooth project implementation.
The discussions are part of Pakistan’s broader strategy to attract foreign direct investment and reduce reliance on public financing for large infrastructure projects.
By partnering with international investors, Pakistan hopes to accelerate the completion of important development projects while also benefiting from foreign expertise, technology, and financial resources.
At the conclusion of the meeting, Prince Mansour expressed confidence that cooperation between Pakistan and Saudi Arabia would continue to grow in the coming years.
He assured the communications minister of the Saudi Pakistan Joint Business Council’s support for strengthening investment and business relations between the two countries.
The meeting ended on a positive note, with both sides agreeing to explore further opportunities for collaboration in infrastructure and other strategic sectors.
If Saudi investment materializes in the proposed motorway projects, it could provide a significant boost to Pakistan’s transportation network, support economic growth, create jobs, and further strengthen the longstanding partnership between Pakistan and Saudi Arabia.
